The members of the Chair of Education Science conduct research on schooling, teaching, and professionalization processes, with particular attention to societal and institutional frameworks as well as individual prerequisites. Central to our work are the competencies and socio-emotional characteristics of both students and teachers. In addressing research questions, an interdisciplinary approach is employed that integrates various theoretical and empirical perspectives.

In a range of national and international research projects and collaborations, members of the Chair are particularly concerned with:

• written and oral grades as well as alternative forms of performance assessment,
• developmental processes of students and teachers,
• transformation processes in the educational system (e.g., the effects of reforms and school trials),
• questions of implementation and transfer research,
• the design of professionalization processes for (prospective) teachers.
