About Prof. Dr. Nicolas Hübner

Nicolas Hübner is a full professor of education science. In his research, he focuses on:

  • Characteristics of effective forms of student assessment, evaluation, and feedback and the comparability and meaning of written and oral grades,
  • Determinants and the differential development of students’ competencies/achievement and motivation, for instance in STEM subjects and ICT,
  • Effects of educational policy reforms and trials in the education system as well as questions related to knowledge translation and implementation research,
  • Effective teacher professional development

In his research, he uses various quantitative research methods, for example, to estimate causal effects in observational studies, longitudinal structural equation models as well as item response theory and multilevel models.

Nicolas Hübner received his PhD at the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology. His work was awarded the Dissertation Award of the Tübingen School of Education (2018) and the Publication Award of the National Educational Panel Study (2020). He studied psychology and education sciences at the University of Erfurt, Jyväskylä University (Finland) and Tübingen University, was a Bradshaw Fellow at Durham University (2019), and is member of the College for Interdisciplinary Educational Research (CIDER).
