For a long time, school grades have been the subject of intense and ongoing debates. A “blind spot” in these recurring debates has so far been oral grades, despite their substantial legal influence on final report card grades. The research project “Development and Criteria of Oral Performance Assessment” therefore examines in particular (a) which criteria teachers use to determine oral grades, (b) how these criteria are weighted, and (c) the extent to which grading processes vary between teachers. The findings of the study aim to contribute to a better understanding of the characteristics, significance, and formation of oral grades.
