.Test-M-I - Further development and test-theoretical foundation of the Studiport mathematics knowledge test - Project I
Timeline
July 01. 2020 – June 30. 2023 (TU Dortmund, University of Bonn)
Project Description
The math test "WINT-Check" is an instrument for testing prior mathematical knowledge that is considered relevant for successful studies in the fields of economics, computer science, the natural sciences, and technology (WINT-degree programs). Thus, the test is aimed at first-year students in WINT fields who want to test their math knowledge relevant to their studies. Two online courses also offer the opportunity to close identified knowledge gaps and deepen existing knowledge. The WINT-Check includes 11 subscales in different math content areas (e.g., functions, geometry, differential calculus). The project Test-M-I focuses on the further development and test-theoretical foundation of the WINT-Check. To this end, quantitative and qualitative analyses of already existing data were carried out, and, in cooperation with external project partners at the RWTH Aachen University, new development of test items was carried out. Subsequently, a multi-matrix design was developed and tested for the main study. The study involved 3213 students from various WINT degree programs and corroborated the test's predictive validity for students' success in math-intensive courses in their respective study programs.
